A Digital Battery Passport is a structured digital record required under the EU Battery Regulation. It is linked to the battery through a QR code. EV batteries, light means of transport batteries and industrial batteries above 2 kWh need one. The passport holds data such as material composition, battery status and health, and history over the battery’s life.

Not if you only install a finished battery. Because the passport stays with the finished battery, whoever placed that battery on the EU market issues it, such as the battery maker or importer. If you build the battery yourself, however, you are the manufacturer. Likewise, if you import a machine or vehicle with a finished battery already installed, the battery is normally placed on the market at import. In that case, you are responsible as importer.
