Kezzler’s Commitment to Compliance with FSMA 204

The FDA’s Food Traceability Final Rule mandates enhanced traceability recordkeeping for entities involved in the manufacturing, processing, packing, or holding of foods listed on the Food Traceability List (FTL). As part of the FDA’s New Era of Smarter Food Safety Blueprint, this rule operationalizes Section 204(d) of the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). Its primary aim is to expedite the identification and swift removal of potentially contaminated food from the market, thereby reducing foodborne illnesses and fatalities.

Key Requirements of the Food Traceability Final Rule

The rule specifies that those affected must maintain records containing Key Data Elements (KDEs) linked to Critical Tracking Events (CTEs). Additionally, they must provide relevant information to the FDA within 24 hours or within a mutually agreed reasonable timeframe. These measures are designed to enhance traceability and ensure rapid response in case of food safety issues.

Industry Alignment and Global Impact

The Food Traceability Final Rule aligns with existing industry best practices and applies to both domestic and international firms supplying food to the U.S. market. It spans the entire food supply chain, from farm to table, ensuring comprehensive traceability.

FSMA 204 Compliance Deadline

To facilitate a coordinated and efficient implementation, all entities must comply with the recordkeeping requirements by January 20, 2026. This unified compliance date ensures that all participants in the food supply chain are prepared to meet the new standards simultaneously.

At Kezzler, we are dedicated to supporting our partners in meeting these new traceability requirements. By leveraging our advanced traceability solutions, we ensure compliance and enhance food safety across the supply chain.
